The short version

  • Scaive helps you read and check a payment number. You make the payment yourself, in M-Pesa.
  • Scaive never moves or holds your money, and never asks for your PIN.
  • Always check the name M-Pesa shows before you enter your PIN.
  • Report scams honestly.

About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and [YOUR COMPANY NAME] Ltd (“Scaive”, “we”). By using the Scaive app or this website you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Scaive.

What Scaive does and doesn't do

Scaive reads phone, till and paybill numbers with your camera, checks them against scam reports and verified shops, and helps you carry them into M-Pesa.

Scaive is not a payment service. It does not send, receive, hold or reverse money. Payments are made by you in M-Pesa, under your agreement with Safaricom. Scaive is independent and is not affiliated with Safaricom.

Your account

You need a Kenyan mobile number to sign up. Keep your phone secure. You can delete your account at any time.

What we ask of you

  • Check every number and the amount before you continue.
  • Check the name M-Pesa shows before you enter your PIN. That name is the final word on who you are paying.
  • Never share your PIN or SMS codes with anyone, including anyone claiming to be Scaive.
  • Don't misuse the app, try to break its security, or use it to harm others.

Warnings and “verified” labels

Warnings come from reports made by other users. “Verified” means a shop proved to us that it controls a till or paybill. Both are aids to your own judgement. A missing warning does not mean a number is safe, and a warning does not prove that a person has done wrong.

Scam reports

Report only what you honestly believe to be true. Don't report a number to hurt a competitor or anyone else. We may limit or close accounts that abuse reporting. The owner of a reported number can ask us for a review.

Verified stickers

If you claim a till or paybill, you confirm you have the right to do so. We may refuse or switch off a sticker if the information is wrong, if the till changes hands, or to protect customers.

The service

We work to keep Scaive accurate and available, but camera reading can make mistakes and the service may sometimes be down. [WARRANTY AND LIABILITY WORDING: to be written by our lawyer]

Ending

You can stop using Scaive and delete your account at any time. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. [DISPUTE RESOLUTION: to be confirmed]

Changes

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change applies.
